The Long Haired Hippie's Last Ride

For the past two weeks Owen has been asking for a haircut. The reason, when he walks home from school he sweats and his hair gets all puffy and crazy. I managed to put it off for a while, but then on Saturday he was complaining again (he was sweating because we raked leaves) so while Molly was taking a nap, I quickly gathered all the supplies and off to haircut city we went. Haircut city is currently located out our backdoor. You might think this is all about Owen, but it's not (sorry Owen). It's all about my long haired hippie, Gavin.
There he is, isn't he cute? I know. And his hair was even longer since this picture was taken in the middle of October. His long hair didn't bother me. His father has gone through long haired phases and that didn't bother me either. He decided to have long hair and he said he didn't want to cut it until it went to the ground. However, something happened when his brother requested a trip to haircut city. The long haired hippie also wanted his haircut. And when his mother thought he was kidding, tears in sued. Poor long haired hippie. His once long haired hippie father had to be sent down to talk to him and the conversation resulted in his own trip to haircut city. Here's the before. Please note the hippie was quite upset and did not want to be photographed.

And here is the after shot, when the tears had been dried and a game of battleship made all the sadness go away. Except for that his mom was trying to do the dishes so the hippie was left alone with his game and built the longest "miss" in A1 ever.

I think it makes him look younger. Why doesn't a trip to haircut city do that for me?

Favorite Five: The Twilight Movie!

He, He, Hello? Is there anything else going on today? I didn't think so. I am super excited to see this movie (are you surprised I didn't go at midnight Jammie???). It's going to be a GNO (girl's night out!) with my motha, aunt, cousins, grandma, and sister-in-laws! Dinner first (this is always a requirement) then tickets to the 7:30 show. Can I just say God Bless Larry H. Miller and his reserved seat idea! Brilliant! I want to hear your favorite five things about the movie! No bummers please, I don't care if you hated it, I am completely planning on loving it so don't bring me down! You can bash it on your own blog, we will only have positive things to say here. Comment on my twilight friends!

My Favorite Five Things about Twilight (if I can limit it to just five!)

1. When they ("the Cullens") walked into the lunchroom and Alice looked for Bella, plus I agree with Natilie, that was the best entrance EVER!!!

2. First glimpse of Edward. Holy moly, he is HOT! I hope all you naysayers changed your minds about him. He was an excellent Edward. Loved his lips, loved the way he spoke, loved loved loved the way he looked in his suit for the prom. Oh my!

3. The first kiss! Bring it on.

4. When they went to school together for the first time and Bells says everyone is staring and Edward says not that kid, oh wait he just looked. Ha, there were a lot of funny lines.

5. When they are at the prom dancing alone, and he dips her back, goes for her neck and asks "is this what you want?" YES!!!, TAKE ME NOW EDWARD!!!!
I loved it! It was so great and I can't wait to see it again (we had a few who couldn't make it with us, so we WILL be going again for their sake!). Just for the fun of it, here are 5 things I needed more of.
1. Alice. I thought she was perfect, loved her in the baseball game, but she needed more screen time. She needed to be friends with Bella by the end of the movie and dress her up for prom. Can't wait to see more of her.
2. Bella screaming for Edward to suck the venom out. IT BURNS EDWARD!!! SAVE ME!!! Instead she just twitched.
3. Jacob. He is a cutie. I know he will dominate the next movie, but I could have standed a bit more of him and hello-where were his friends?
4. Emmett. He was hilarious and not so bad looking either.
5. The movie to be longer and just magically continue on into New Moon. I could have sat there for hours!

Google My Reader

This post is dedicated entirely to my friend Heather, who I found out still checks people's blogs to see if they've updated. Well my friends, here is where Google Reader becomes the greatest thing ever available to you on the internet. When I first heard of Google Reader I thought "what the heck is that?" and "I don't need this". But what I didn't know is how much I did need Google Reader. Just like Tivo changed the way I watch TV (and now I couldn't live without it), Google Reader has changed the way I read blogs and how much time I spend reading them. If Tivo ran for President with Google Reader on the ticket, I would be the campaign manager. What? I don't know, on with the show.
Why do I need Google Reader? you may be asking yourself. Let me tell you. Do you ever: check your friends blog and she never, ever updates, spy on people from high school, spy on people you don't know, only want to read those blogs that have a new post? Then Google Reader is about to become your new BFF.
First here is the Google Reader Link, you need a google account, mine is the same as my blogger and I can't remember if I created it the same or if I already had a google account because I had a blogger account. Confused already? me too. Anyhoo, get yourself an account and set it as your homepage or as an additional homepage. Do it. Now! Okay, now forgive my high quality photo but I am not good at explaining things so I needed a visual aid. This is part of my Google Reader homepage. If one of the blogs that I "subscribe" to has posted something new there would be a number next to the name of the blog. None of you have posted anything new today. Losers. There you are Engars, Jabobsons, Life is short Natilie, nothing new from none of ya. So to subscribe to a blog you need to copy the blog address and hit the "Add Subscription" button that you see in the middle of the photo. Paste the address in there and anytime it's updated Google Reader will let you know.
One thing I just learned is how to actually go to the blog from Google Reader, so if you wanted to leave a comment or something. See in this next picture where it says Jacobson, well you just click on that and it will open the blog in a new window. Fabulous.Google Reader does not work for private blogs, so I have a folder in my favorites of all the private blogs I read, then when I am signed in I just quickly check all those. There you have it, Google Reader in a nutshell, help I'm trapped in a nutshell. If anyone has any other tips or tricks please leave a comment. If you would like to leave your testimony of Google Reader or Tivo you may also feel free to do so.

Favorite Five: Music, so in love with my music

Recently I have been accused of being a little excited over all things Twilight. Since I am not feeling the love from the people for the soundtrack, I thought I would push some of my other favorite music on to you and see how you respond. Here are my five favorite albums according to the play count on iTunes. Please leave yours in the comments!

1. Raising Sand by Alison Krauss and Robert Plant
2. Introducing Joss Stone by Joss Stone
3. Fizzy Fuzzy Big & Buzzy by The Refreshments
4. Foiled by Blue October
5. The Diary of Alicia Keys by Alicia Keys

and some bonus material for all you music lovers:
Like Vines by The Hush Sound
The Walking Wounded by Bayside
Justified AND/OR FutureSex/LoveSounds both by Justin Timberlake (don't judge me!)

I heart Oprah! (and Snapfish too.)

Hello, who doesn't. Well The Ride Leader for one, but let's not get in to that. If you watched Oprah's show yesterday, or even if you didn't, it was all about organization. Yeah! Great! The best part was when she announced that you could go to snapfish.com and create an 8 x 11 custom photo book for FREE! Yahoo! Whoopee! This is how I have spent my morning. It is so cute and fun to do. Thankfully we have some lovely family pictures to slap in there. So all of you who keep saying I am keeping this blog to be made into a book, here's your chance to do for zero dollars. Hurry the offer expires tomorrow at midnight and you have to order your book by sunday. Here's a link to Oprah's website for more info.

Bye Bye Bye

I know, you just started singing the greatest *NSYNC song ever. It's been running wild in my head since I started thinking about this post. Just don't start doing the hand across your chest action thing or falling down in the rotating tunnel thing from the video (which turned up in High School Musical 3 for some reason (hey Troy, come up with your own idea)), that would be going to far. This however, is not a time to talk about my favorite boy bands. It is a time of weeping and wailing and gnashing of teeth. It is time to say bye bye bye to the bottle.Look at that face, could you really take away her bottle (or bauble as she lovingly calls it). Yes, yes I can and I did. I said Sunday would be her last day to have it (no need to thank me ward members, I didn't want to hear her scream anymore than you did), but when she woke up Monday morning asking for it, I totally caved. I later regrouped, girded up my loins, and threw the darn thing in the garbage after she went to bed. This morning she whined a little and finally gave up and drank her milk out of the perfectly nice sippy cup I had given her. We celebrated by going to Walmart and buying some fancy new Elmo sippy's. Yea for big girls!!! Little big girls.

*Just a note, yes she held her bottle the wrong way. It is designed with an angle in it to help promote semi-upright feeding (according to their website!) but she always held it wrong, even if you turned it the correct way she would immediately turn it back around.

Favorite Five: A few of my Favorite Things, right now

Watching Oprah's guest appearance on 30 Rock last night inspired my list of favorite things. Who doesn't love to watch Oprah's Favorite Things show and scream with delight along with the teary-eyed audience as they receive these great items. I won't be giving any of my things away, but you can still scream with delight at the computer screen since you're blessed enough to hear about them!

1. 3 Entertainment Weekly collector's covers of Twilight. This one is especially yummy!

you can see the other 2 covers and read more here!

2. Our new individual popcorn bowls. Got them at The Dollar Spot!

3. Making this cream cheese braid, and then eating all of it. I know, just call me Betty. I went to a bread making class and loved it! Easiest recipe, and if I can do it, anyone can.

4. Have I mentioned that I am loving the Twilight Soundtrack? Oh, I have? Well I am still loving it(listening as I type!). You should get it from iTunes because you get more tracks.

5. The fact that I am going scrapbooking tonight! A couple of hours spent with the girls, laughing, gossiping, and eating. Maybe a few pages done, but that's not the important stuff. My wonderful husband at home with my darling children and me out taking a break. Looking at pictures of my family when they are happy and not saying anything, remembering how much I love them and want to be a good wife and mom. This enough should cause peace to come to this country, no matter who our president may be. Hope your night is just as great!

About Yesterday......

I didn't want to brag, but I can't help it. It was one of the best days! I totally downloaded the Twilight Soundtrack at 7 a.m. and listened to it like 5 times already. I love it! How was your day?

**Just found the music video for Paramore's song Decode, which is on the delicious soundtrack mentioned above. Even if you don't like this song (what's wrong with you???) you should watch the video because it has some super fabulous scenes (lots I had never seen before) from THE MOVIE!!! Here's a spoiler, it shows some from the prom at the end of the book! Can't stand it, explanation point, explanation point, explanation point (as Gavin calls them.)**

Hot & Heavy

No, I am not talking about when The Ride Leader and I used to make out in high school, it's the election silly. Not only is the presidential race a doosie, but there's Prop 8 and a whole lot of other stuff that I'm sure is really important and has people riled up. I found this really helpful article in the sunday paper, it gives advice on what to do if you and your significant other are voting for different parties. Since that is not a problem in our household, I thought I would share it with the rest of you, the ones whose vote might differ from mine. So you will know what to do when your candidate loses.

Sorry kids, I am no good at this computer stuff. I thought you would be able to click on it and it would enlarge, I should know that never works for me. I just cropped the important stuff out, so here is it.

Have Story, Will Tell.

As a scrapbooking professional (ha ha) the hardest part for me is telling the story. Trying not to miss any fun detail or favorite memory that goes along with my fabulous pictures and super cute embellishments. I have lots of pages that are completely done, if you don't count the story (journaling) that is missing. Maybe help is on the way. Thanks to my friend Amie, I have found this FREE online class to help capture all those stories that are worth telling. Check out JessicaSprague.com to register for the class, it goes from November 9-23. I would love to hear if you do it, I am already signed up!
